Distance Traveled aims to tackle barriers to entry for under-represented minorities by exposing high school students to orthopedics through one-day outreach initiatives consisting of lectures and hands-on mock surgeries. Distance Traveled has 501(c)3 status due to its affiliation with Columbia University. All donations to Distance Traveled are tax-deductible.

It all starts with a workshop
Timing of exposure and student-perceived stereotypes are significant determinants in a medical student's decision to pursue a surgical profession. Inherent bias exists within the application and evaluation process, lack of access to resources, and potentially weak early STEM education in communities of color.
Where the dollars go
The cost of underwriting one workshop is $2500. These workshops are only possible through donations and grants. Every donation will enable us to host workshops, build mentorship programs, and provide valuable resources for those under-represented in medicine, specifically orthopedic surgery.

"Every amount makes a difference in the students we serve. Please consider sharing this page with your network.Thank you for your donation!"
