An Introduction to the Orthopaedic Diversity Leadership Consortium

Although many academic programs have appointed diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) leaders, there are several obstacles that limit the efficacy of this role.

The Orthopaedic Diversity Leadership Consortium (ODLC) is a network of orthopedic diversity leaders formed to address the lack of diversity and inclusion in the field.

Although many academic programs have appointed diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) leaders, there are several obstacles that limit the efficacy of this role, including: difficulty in integrating DEIs interdepartmentally due to lack of financial resources or engagement, few solution-based strategies that can guide recruitment, and lack of interprofessional collaboration among healthcare teams.

The goal of the ODLC is to enhance the sustainability of diversity efforts among organizations and academic institutions. The guiding objectives to achieve this goal are leadership development, design of strategic plan models for diversity, and interprofessional education on inclusion. With both national and global members, ODLC will encourage the development of diversity roles within orthopedic departments and drive towards more diverse, equitable environments for all patients and employees.
