Dave Atkin, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He graduated from the University of California, San Diego, summa cum laude, with a degree in Biochemistry and was awarded the Regents Scholarship to attend medical school at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Dr. Atkin completed residency training at the University of California, San Francisco, and subsequently served as an Orthopedics Overseas volunteer in Transkei, South Africa, during Apartheid. He completed a two-year knee and shoulder fellowship at Kaiser/University of California, San Diego, and his Master of Public Health at the University of California,Berkeley.
Dr. Atkin has volunteered with Operation Rainbow, an organization that teaches pediatric orthopedic surgery, since 1995 and has served as its President since 2004. He is an active volunteer and has led over 60 surgical missions. Dr. Atkin is the Current Board Chair of the MeWater Foundation, an organization that introduces vulnerable youth to nature.
Dr. Atkin received the American Academy of Orthopedics Humanitarian Award in 2021 and actively collaborates with numerous organizations seeking diversity, equity, and inclusion in orthopedics, including the Ruth Jackson Orthopedic Society, Black Women Orthopedic Surgeons, SpeakUpOrtho, and Pride Ortho.
